The PRAU Excellence Awards 2024, held on November 29th at the elegant Protea Hotel – Upper Kololo Terrace, will be remembered for many remarkable highlights. However, one unprecedented moment in the Students’ Category stands out. A groundbreaking decision that redefined the standards of excellence.
For the first time in the awards’ history, the Students’ Category did not yield an official award winner. The judges, adhering to strict criteria, determined that none of the submissions achieved the required percentage threshold to qualify as nominees. Despite this, the judging panel commended the effort and creativity demonstrated by all participants, reflecting the growing potential within Uganda’s public relations industry.
Among the submissions, Ms. Esther Nampeera emerged as a standout. While her submission did not meet the threshold for the main award, the judges recognized her exceptional work and proposed a special acknowledgment. To honor her efforts and inspire upcoming PR professionals, Ms. Nampeera was presented with a Certificate of Commendation, a first in the history of the PRAU Excellence Awards.

This milestone decision underscores the awards’ commitment to maintaining high standards while encouraging promising talent. The Certificate of Commendation awarded to Ms. Esther Nampeera serves as a testament to the potential for growth and innovation in the field of public relations, especially among students.
The PRAU Secretariat expressed hope that this recognition would inspire greater participation and effort in future submissions, setting the stage for a more competitive and rewarding student category in the years to come.
Ms. Nampeera’s achievement not only highlights her dedication but also serves as a challenge to her peers: excellence requires both creativity and adherence to professional benchmarks. Her recognition is a reminder that even in the absence of an official award, exceptional effort will always be acknowledged.

This unique moment reflects the evolution of the PRAU Excellence Awards and its commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and growth within Uganda’s PR industry. As the curtain falls on this year’s ceremony, the bar is set higher for aspiring public relations professionals, with Ms. Nampeera’s recognition standing as a beacon of encouragement.
